Checkers Foods

Location: South Africa
Scope: Brand, Interior, Draw, Procure

The brief

The TDC&Co relationship with the Checkers brand is a longstanding one, though rolling out the Franschhoek store design would prove to be anything but a rote task.

The site presented plenty of challenges, not least of which was a requirement
to complement and showcase existing elements and architecture.

But as in most projects, these parameters gave us our edges and opened possibilities for creativity in the space between.

Our response

As a starting point for this project, we wanted to preserve the heritage
of the site and allow the structure to guide the design. The intention was
to create a grounded, engaging experience that would serve as an impactful backdrop for the product.

Even though the space is relatively small, we still conceived of each department
as its own store-within-a-store, supported by linger
and pause areas throughout.

The overall feeling is that of a neighbourhood market, with all its texture
and local influence, but elevated for a discerning contemporary shopper.
