In recent years, as the design concept keeps on evolving, core elements always remain to be the references to the urban context in the sense for material and finishing aesthetic. Materials like raw sealed steel, bagged brick and worn stained ash timber becomes the textural backdrop for the concept. In the open denim department, industrial theater light rigging and illuminated steel lettering are some of the main elements of design, and as for the footwear department, it is housed within a steel window structure where the lighting is more refined by using exposed filament lamps that cantilever from the display wall on long steel arms.
The design lent itself to creating niche call-out spaces and department areas along the jagged perimeter of the store, much like organic urban planning.
With over 55m of shop front and a vertical expanse at 5.6m, it is perhaps one of the most dominating and inviting features of this store.
We’ve investigated the industrial airplane hangers for the door structures, utilizing a repetitive mullion structure and glazing panels on a top hung glide. This enables us to have the transition of them functioning as doors by night, into backing panels for the window display by day.
